Our firm specializes in public law. We have served as the City Attorney for the City of Santa Cruz for sixty years. The firm also serves as General Counsel and Special Counsel to many other public agencies and special districts within Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, Monterey, San Benito Counties, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Firm History
Our firm was founded by Rod Atchison in 1964, after he initially served two years as the “in-house” City Attorney for the City of Santa Cruz. From its inception, the firm focused on a public law practice, with Mr. Atchison serving as the City Attorney for the City of Santa Cruz. Mr. Atchison’s exemplary service and dedication led to his serving as the City Attorney for the City of Santa Cruz for a total of 28 years, until his retirement in 1990.
The firm’s reputation as trusted counsel continued with Mr. Atchison’s successor, John Barisone, who represented the City of Santa Cruz as its City Attorney for the next 25 years, from 1990 until Mr. Barisone’s retirement in 2015. During his tenure, Mr. Barisone also expanded the firm’s practice by serving as the City Attorney for the City of Capitola from 2001 to 2015.
The firm's current managing partner, Anthony Condotti, continues the firm's proud legacy by serving as the City Attorney for the City of Santa Cruz and General Counsel to other public agencies.
Since its founding, the firm has experienced growth in both its public and private sector clients through its retention by other municipalities and public agencies, as well as by individuals, and local, national and international businesses.
Our firm is one of the oldest law firms in Santa Cruz County with an outstanding reputation in the legal community.
