John G. Barisone
John G. Barisone is a shareholder at the firm. He received his Bachelor’s degree cum laude in 1975 and Juris Doctor with honors in 1979 from the University of San Francisco. He first practiced five years in San Francisco with an emphasis in insurance defense law. He next served as a trial deputy in the civil division of the San Mateo County Counsel’s office for four years. While with San Mateo County, he served as attorney for the County Sheriff Department, Building Inspector, Social Services Department and Agricultural Commissioner.
In 1987 he joined the firm as Assistant City Attorney serving all Santa Cruz City departments and representing Santa Cruz and the firm’s other public agency and private sector clients in civil litigation matters. In March 1990, the Santa Cruz City Council appointed Mr. Barisone to serve as the Santa Cruz City Attorney. Mr. Barisone has also served as the Capitola City Attorney since September, 2001. As of March 2015, Mr. Barisone has retired from both positions. He continues to practice with the firm on a part-time basis. In 2019, Mr. Barisone was honored with the Roland K. Hall (Rollie Hall) Award from the Santa Cruz County Bar Association for his outstanding contribution.
Mr. Barisone was previously an active member of the League of California Cities City Attorneys Department. He has served on the League’s Legal Advocacy Committee and Community Services Policy Committee and has made presentations at League conferences. He previously served on the Public Records Act Committee of the League’s City Attorneys’ Department.
